چکیده

Snake venoms are known to cause different metabolic disorders, altering cellular and enzymatic activities in animals and releasing pharmacological substances. The objective of this study is to explore the effect of the lethal dose of Indian cobra (Naja naja) venom snake on the lung tissue of albino rats. The rats were divided into three groups, the first group served as a control group, while the second and third group were treated with the snake venom injected intraperitoneal (i.p) as LD50 (o.o5μg/g body weight) and sacrificed a er 3 and 24hrs of snake venom injection respectively, tissue sections of the lab. Animal's lung were prepared and examined Microscopically. Histopathological changes was seen a er 3hr from injec on as thickening of alveolar septa with focal dilata on of alveoli producing emphysema. While those changes a er 24hrs from envenoming were showed same changes with more prominent congestion and more abundant thickening of alveolar septa with focal dilatation of alveoli producing emphysema. This study proved of LD50 of cobra (Naja naja) venom had the same effect on lung ssue a er 3hrs and 24hrs.

Oral Toxicity Study of the Venom of Naja Naja in Albino Rats

The venom of Naja naja has been studied clinically as an analgesic. It has been recently determined that the venom of cobra is biologically active even when it is administered by mouth. As there are no published studies on the effects of orally administered cobra venom, a 72h toxicity study was conducted in the Albino rats. We have selected 1/50 LD50 dose (7μg/ kg body weight) in the present in...

Production of effective antivenin to treat cobra snake

Conventional treatment of Naja naja oxiana (NNO) envenoming requires large volumes of equine antivenin raised against NNO crude venom. The poor efficiency of this antivenin is assumed to be due to the high molecular weight non-toxic proteins, a strong immunogen, present in the crude venom. These proteins cause depression of antibody formation against the low molecular weight toxic components of...
